What is a payroll office/Social Agency for Artists?

A payroll office has the legal status of an employment agency. The difference is that a payroll office only takes care of payroll administration and does not interfere with the agreements between the freelance temp and the client. As a result, the freelancer can work in a flexible manner, similar to the work of a self-employed individual, while still enjoying the protection offered by the employee status. This combines the best of both options: the liberty of a freelancer and the protection of an employee. This is why we call the people working through Tentoo “freelancers”.

A Social Agency for Artists is an employment agency with a specific licence for employing artists. Only agencies with this licence can provide payroll services for artistic work. This also gives artists a legal status without obliging them to register as self-employed individuals, while they enjoy the social protection of an employee.

How to register?

Registering with Tentoo is free and does not imply any binding commitment. You can register on our website at www.tentoo.be. Complete all required details and click “Next”. Once registered online, you will receive two automatic e-mails from Tentoo. One e-mail includes the login details for your personal my.tentoo account. The other e-mail includes a declaration of intent. Please print the declaration of intent, sign it and send it to Tentoo in order to complete your registration. If you want to work as a student part-timer, you also have to send the declaration on honour.

Why is the dimona declaration important?

The "dimona" (immediate declaration) is a declaration of your working day filed by your employer with the National Social Security Office. This declaration ensures that all legal requirements are met and that you are insured at the workplace. This dimona must be filed before the start of your working day.

Filing dimonas for the past is not allowed. Since you or your employer are/is responsible for submitting your working days, it is important to do this on time.

What are the advantages in comparison to self-employed individuals?

If you work through a payroll office, you are working with the liberty of a self-employed individual, but you enjoy the social protection of an employee. Advantages such as sick days and holidays, an unemployment allowance, brief leave of absence, etc. are reserved for people working as employees.

In addition, the payroll office assumes the debtor risk. As a self-employed individual, you have to ensure that your invoices are paid, which may take a long time. Tentoo guarantees payment of your salary within 7 days and ensures the collection of amounts due.

If you work through a payroll office, you pay an administrative charge. However, as a self-employed individual you have to keep accounting records and thus seek the services of an accountant. You also have to register with a social security office to ensure payment of your social contributions. All these services include costs you have to pay yourself as a self-employed individual, while a payroll office will only charge a single administrative charge on each invoice and you only have to focus on your work.
