Requirements for practising a flexi-job

Flexi-job employment is possible if you were already employed by another Belgian employer at least 4/5 in the third quarter preceding the current one. So suppose you want to exercise a flexi-job in quarter 4 of 2024, you must have been employed at least 80% in January, February and March 2024. This employment may be combined at several employers.

The government has also set some conditions you need to meet in order to exercise a flexi job:

• You may not exercise a flexi-job in the same company where you are currently employed under another employment contract for at least 4/5ths.
• You may not exercise a flexi job in the same company where you are currently in a period covered by a severance pay or redundancy compensation payment
• You must not be in a notice period
• You are not employed with an employment contract with the user/client to whom you are made available by a temporary employment agency (e.g. Tentoo) to perform a flexi-job. However, the condition of 4/5 employment in reference quarter T-3 does not apply if the employee in reference quarter T-2 is a pensioner.
• You may not exercise a flexi-job if you have already had another temp contract with the same temp agency in the current quarter. So if you had a contract with Tentoo as an artist, clerk, labourer or job student in quarter 1, you cannot exercise a flexi-job via Tentoo later in quarter 1. The reverse is possible: first a flexi-job and later during that quarter another type of contract.
• You have not yet reached the annual tax ceiling for working as a flexi-jobber. For 2024, this ceiling is set at €12,000 net.
