Payrolling for employers in Belgium: more flex, less admin

The labor market is becoming looser and more versatile. Employees view their careers as a dynamic path. Companies need temporary expertise faster. “Payrolling can reconcile those two needs,” says Laura Weygantt, general manager of Tentoo. The temp agency acts as the legal employer for temporary assignments. We take over the contracts, declarations, and payments.

Employees demand more flexibility. How do you see that?
Laura Weygantt: “People expect to change roles throughout their careers. Work must do more than provide an income. It must provide satisfaction. It must leave room for other talents and fit their lives. Because of this, more people combine jobs. Someone can be an accountant during the day and take on a creative assignment at night.”
Where is the biggest shift?
“The biggest shift is in freedom of choice. It goes beyond working hours and remote work. People have become more vocal. People want autonomy. They look for ways to do their own thing. They do this as an alternative to becoming self-employed. A VAT number remains a barrier for many starters. Administration, costs, and social contributions apply before a single euro is earned.”
Why do employers choose payrolling?
“Companies want to scale up when there is work. They want to scale down when the assignment is finished. Think of peak periods, events, audiovisual assignments, marketing, HR, or IT. Managing different statutes is complex. Employees, students, flexi-jobbers, and temporary workers each have their own rules and declarations.”
What is payrolling and how does it work in Belgium?
“Payrolling bridges the gap between doing everything yourself and outsourcing administration to a social secretariat. The client keeps control over who they hire. They leave the socio-legal details to us. Both parties make agreements about the assignment, duration, and compensation via our digital platform. The administration follows directly after approval.”
What does that mean in concrete terms?
“Companies deploy flexible employees quickly and legally. This relieves the pressure on HR. The cost is completely clear in advance. Companies know exactly what an assignment will cost. The freelancer sees the exact net amount. This makes the collaboration transparent for both parties.”
Payrolling vs. social secretariat: what is the difference? Is payrolling mostly administration, or also strategy?
“It starts with less administration. The added value goes much further. Companies bring in expertise and avoid immediate fixed wage burdens. They respond faster to projects, seasonal peaks, or specialized needs. HR gets more room for what really matters. HR finds the right people. HR helps them land well. HR turns different profiles into one workable team.”
