Everything you need to know about holiday pay
Holiday pay is an essential benefit for employees in Belgium, and understanding how it works, when you receive it, and who’s responsible for paying it is crucial. In this article, we’ll dive into the details of holiday pay and provide you with all the information you need, to ensure you don’t miss out on anything.
What is holiday pay?
holiday pay consists of two parts:
- Single holiday pay: The regular salary you receive during your vacation.
- Double holiday pay: An additional allowance for the extra expenses that come with taking a holiday.
Every employee who has worked and paid social contributions is entitled to holiday pay in the year following their work.
Who pays holiday pay?
The method of payment for holiday pay differs between employees and workers:
- Employees: holiday pay is directly paid by the employer. If you’re working as an employee through Tentoo, you’ll receive your departure holiday pay at the end of each assignment along with your salary. In other words, the holiday pay is paid upfront.
- Workers and non-self-employed artists: holiday pay is paid annually by the National Office for Annual Vacation (NOAV). This includes both single and double holiday pay, which is paid in one lump sum.
To receive your holiday pay as a worker or non-self-employed artist, you must provide your personal bank account number to the National Office for Annual Vacation.
When do I receive my holiday pay?
Holiday pay is disbursed between early May and the end of June in the year following your work. For example, if you worked in 2023, you will receive your holiday pay between early May and the end of June 2024.
How do I receive my holiday pay?
To ensure timely payment of your holiday pay, you must provide your personal bank account number to your vacation fund. You can do this in two ways:
- Visit mijnvakantierekening.be and log in via itsme® or with your eID card. This is the fastest way to receive your holiday pay.
- Visit the NOAV website, go to Forms > Submit my account number, and fill in the required information.
Why is it important to provide your account number?
The National Office for Annual Vacation (RJV) urges all workers and non-self-employed artists to submit their account number before December 31, 2024. Failing to do so may result in the loss of your holiday pay.

Are you a worker or non-self-employed artist who hasn’t received your holiday pay for 2022 (work year 2021) or 2023 (work year 2022)? You can still claim it through the NOAV. All you need to do is submit your account number by December 31, 2024. Failing to do so will result in losing your holiday pay.
