In 2024, the system of flexi-jobs in Belgium was extended to a lot of additional sectors. The authorised joint committees:

  • JC 112 – Motor vehicle garage business
  • JC 118 – Food Industry: subcommittees 118.03 (bakeries), 118.07, 118.08, 118.09, 118.10, 118.11, 118.12, 118.14, 118.21, 118.22
  • JC 119 – Food trade
  • PC 139 – Inland water transport
  • JC 140.01 – Bus transport services
  • JC 140.05 – Removers
  • JC 200: only for NACE code 85.531 Driving schools and training centres
  • JC 201 – Independent retailers
  • JC 202 – Food retail trade + JC 202.01 – Medium-sized food companies
  • JC 223 – Sports
  • JC 302 – Hotel industry
  • JC 303.03 – Operation of cinema halls
  • JC 304 – Entertainment activities excluding artistic functions
  • JC 311 – Large retail establishments
  • JC 312 – Department stores
  • JC 314 – Hairdressing and beauty care
  • JC 320 – Funeral services
  • JC 323 – Property management and estate agents, excluding domestic workers
  • JC 322 – For temporary work, if the user belongs to one of JCs listed here
  • JC 330 – Health facilities and services, excluding care functions
  • Education – NACE codes: 85.101, 85.102, 85.103, 85.104, 85.105, 85.106, 85.201, 85.202, 85.203, 85.204, 85.205, 85.206, 85.311, 85.312, 85.313, 85.314, 85.321, 85.322, 85.323, 85.324, 85.325, 85.326, 85.410, 85.421, 85.422, 85.591, 85.60, 85.601 and NACE code 85.609 (subject to conditions)
  • JC 331 Childcare activities (NACE 88.91)
  • Public sports and culture sector with the exception of artistic, artistic-technical and artistic-support functions related to activities defined by the Law of 16 December 2022 establishing the Arts Commission and improving the social protection of workers in the arts sector.

  • Events sector for enterprises whose main activity is in one of the following NACE codes and only for functions directly related to the organisation of events: 90011, 90012, 90022, 90023, 90029, 90031, 90032, 90041, 90042, 82300, 93199, 77292, 77293, 77392, 77399 and 82300, with the exception of artistic, artistic-technical and artistic-support functions covering activities as defined by the law of 16 December 2022 establishing the Commission for the Arts and improving the social protection of workers in the arts sector. The companies concerned may use flexi-jobs only for activities related to the organisation of events.

Who can work a flexi-job?

Flexi-jobs are available to pensioners and employees who already work at least 4/5 for another employer. This means that your flexi-job worker must have worked at least 80% during the third quarter preceding the flexi-job.

Since 2024, the system has been expanded, but there are specific rules you need to meet to qualify for a flexi-job. Make sure you are aware of these regulations to maximize the benefits of flexi-job opportunities.

What salary do you pay for a flexi-job?

When setting the salary for flexi-jobbers, there are several guidelines and minimum wage requirements to consider:

For the hospitality sector, the minimum flexi-job wage is €12.53 per hour, including flexi-holiday pay.

For other sectors, the hourly wage must be at least equal to the established minimum wage for the position or the guaranteed average minimum monthly income (GAMMI). Additionally, the flexi-holiday pay for a flexi-jobber is 7.67% on top of the hourly wage.

As an employer, you pay an additional 25% in employer contributions on top of the flexi-jobber’s wage. The total flexi-wage, including allowances and benefits, cannot exceed 150% of the sector’s minimum base wage or the GAMMI.
